Sent by his parents to a military academy, young Friedrich Schiller did not succeed in the profession of a military doctor. He wrote plays and poems during all eight years of his studies. Having deserted from the army and moved to Mannheim, the failed doctor disappoints his patron Baron Dalberg, who promised him his patronage. Schiller would have died of hunger if not for the sympathy and care of the young actress Katharina Baumann (Teresa Weissbach). Then a young lawyer from Leipzig appears in his life, providing the budding playwright with financial support.
