Erica (Diane Keaton), an American woman of a certain age, shares a bed with two men and only then (finally!) does she feel happy. She wasn't even this happy when she had a husband. Family and routine don't provide the same joy. The birth and raising of her daughter didn't bring her joy. Work was unfulfilling. Happiness is having an admirer, and here she has two. Admirer #1 is a vulgar amalgam of all the masculine virtues that Erica yearns to feel around her. He's an ardent admirer of her drama and knows all her works. He has an attractive profession in the eyes of any woman, he's a doctor and has a standard, appropriate sense of humor. And most importantly, he's attracted to Erica as a woman, despite the fact that he's almost half her age. Admirer #2, much more suitable for her age, but in fragile health.
