Neil and Marina (Olga Kurylenko) are searching for happiness. They travel around Paris and visit Mont-Saint-Michel. Marina whispers words of love in French, while Neil accompanies her in silence. But the idyll is short-lived. Neil and Marina move to Oklahoma, and their marriage begins to slowly unravel. Weary of one another, Neil and Marina seek relationships elsewhere. Neil takes a lover (Rachel McAdams), while Marina finds a male friend. Meanwhile, both turn to a priest for help with their problems. He, too, is searching for his own paradise on earth, yet all he sees around him is the suffering of his parishioners and the many criminals and sick people with whom he works.
