Eddie watches his father suffer a long, agonizing death from cancer. The young man had considered his father the kindest and most honest person in the world. A sense of monstrous injustice drives Eddie to renounce the God in whom he had fervently believed throughout his childhood. Having lost his faith, he begins to search for universal meaning within himself. Years later, as a leading scientist, Eddie gradually concludes that the human soul exists in multiple states. From a scientific perspective, he explains this through the hypothesis that memory is a form of energy, one that never vanishes but is stored in the archives of the human brain. All that is required is to find the right external stimulus to awaken it and discover one's true, original self within.
