Beatrice Camurat, Christine Pascal "Train d'enfer" (1985)

Agitated by a brawl with some Arabs (one of whom did, in fact, turn out to be a petty thief at a dance), three Frenchmen from a small town near Paris take out their rage on an "outsider" they encounter on a train. The police, led by Commissioner Couturier, an honest and impartial officer, launch an investigation and see it through to the end, despite blackmail and threats from the rampaging racists. In the process, the investigation lays bare the true, sordid nature of the French petty bourgeoisie.
Lying naked on a massage table, Beatrice Camurat reflects on interethnic issues.
