The resort is enclosed by barbed wire (for aesthetic reasons), and foreigners are forbidden from leaving the grounds (for their own safety). Gabi (Mia Goth), an emancipated Western woman and her predatory husband latch onto James, pressuring the weak-willed fellow into breaking the rules. While driving back from an outing under the influence of alcohol, James runs over a local resident and ends up in prison. An investigator explains to James that the island has a beautiful, ancient custom, the sons of the victim must kill their father's killer.
