Ted is a typical teenage loser. He has no luck in life, and even his own therapist can't stand listening to his constant whining. The only bright spot in Ted's life is meeting the beautiful Mary (Cameron Diaz). For some incredible reason, she takes an interest in him, and even invites him to the prom. On his way to the dance, he stops by Mary's house, where, in front of her parents, neighbors, a police officer, and Mary herself, he accidentally catches his manhood in his trouser zipper. The evening is ruined. Instead of the prom, poor Ted ends up in the hospital and loses touch with Mary. Years later, Ted decides to track her down. And the detective, of course, is unable to escape this fate either.
