Jacob Nicks is a Middle East war veteran who returns home after a tour of duty hoping for a quiet life, but ends up suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, chronic insomnia and dreaming of a revolution in the indifferent reality that surrounds him. But the sleep of reason only gives birth to a monster in his own head. He gets a job as a projectionist in a dilapidated movie theater, meets a prostitute (Natasha Alam) and a homeless man who sells drugs, whom he treats to coffee. Attempts to adapt to normal life end in failure and he, hating everyone around him, tries to protect America, as he once did in Iraq.
