Sarah (Leelee Sobieski), an understudy in a theater, sleeps with the lead actor in the play, who has a wife and is also the lead. Sarah is jealous of her lover and therefore hates his wife. The Chinese man showers Sarah with care, and Sarah gratefully accepts it all. This odd couple enters into an equally odd relationship. The Chinese man becomes Sarah's mentor and guardian, while Sarah becomes more of a tempter and an obsession for him. The Chinese man introduces Sarah to the pagan customs of his people and treats her to exquisite cuisine and tea. How will all this help the young woman solve her problems?
