The "Iron-Jawed Angels" were young activists who organized a movement to defend women's suffrage. Risking their lives, the movement's leaders helped women in the United States gain the right to vote. US citizens were charged and harshly punished for attempting to invoke the First Amendment, violating the Geneva Convention. Naturally, Alice, Ruza (Vera Farmiga), and Lucy (Frances O'Connor) suffered greatly, they were arrested, went on hunger strikes. But most importantly, they achieved their goal! President Woodrow Wilson granted women the right to vote.
In a fight for women's rights, Frances O'Connor, Vera Farmiga and Jolene Carroll stand naked before prison guards.
