Macbeth isn't a villain, he's a henpecked husband. Honorable service to the King of Scotland earned him nothing but the noble title he was born into. Believing the prophecy of three seductive witches, Macbeth foolishly shares the witches' ravings with his wife. The aspiring bitch, Lady Macbeth (Victoria Hill), forces her husband to stab the king and then carefully remove the blood off her husband's hands. All the oracles give their predictions vaguely or incompletely (they might have to answer for their words), but Macbeth only knows part of the prophecy and thus ruins his immortal soul. Having committed one murder, Macbeth is doomed to commit more, and when the moment of reckoning arrives, Lady Macbeth goes mad just in time, gracefully leaving her bedfellow to pay the price alone.
