Mick grows up among numerous immigrants in a high-crime Chicago neighborhood. Mick often commits petty crimes, but he clearly wants to achieve something more. One day, he and a friend decide to pull off a bigger deal by robbing a rival from a Puerto Rican youth gang. But things don't go according to plan, and Mick ends up in the hands of the police after committing a serious crime. A judge, having learned of Mick's past, decides to send him to a juvenile detention center. After his first steps in this penitentiary, Mick realizes he's entered a cruel environment, where the guards not only serve as moral guides but also sometimes employ harsh, rehabilitative tactics. And the local inhabitants are dangerous, breaking those who are weaker not only physically but also psychologically. To survive in this zoo and emerge free as a man who has reassessed his life's priorities, Mick will have to fight every day.
