Laney (Sarah Silverman), a seemingly perfect wife and mother, is perfectly happy, doting on her children and living solely for her family. But with each passing day, she reveals darker sides of her nature, aggression toward casual acquaintances, soft and hard drugs, pathological lying, refusing to communicate with her father and brother, drinking binges and one-night stands in a cheap bar, cheating on her husband with his best friend - there seems to be no end to this woman's vices. Increasingly gripped by bouts of depression, she loses control. Step by step, Laney approaches the abyss, and finally, the moment arrives when catastrophe is inevitable. Gathering her strength, she makes a last desperate attempt in the hopes of fixing everything and saving her family.
