War photographer Jacques adheres to a simple rule in his relationships with the womans, remain faithful only until you meet someone better. Despite his advanced age, he remains vibrant and, with youthful enthusiasm, trades wives for mistresses and vice versa. Jacques has four daughters with various girlfriends, but he cares far less about his offspring than about his camera and his new lover, with whom he spends a joyful time in the Alps. But everything changes when his best friend, wanting to bring the philandering Jacques back into the family, decides to resort to a brazen lie, telling his four now-adult daughters about their father's serious illness and the short time he has left. Much to Jacques's surprise, his children and grandchildren, whom he hadn't given much thought to, reunite with him, promising to make peace with his past.
