Two people meet by chance amidst the utter hell of World War II. David Halloran, an American pilot with a UK-based US Air Force regiment, and Margaret Sellinger (Lesley-Anne Down), a young British nurse. They fall in love at first sight. Or rather, with their first cup of tea at a roadside cafe on Hanover Street, a random street plucked by fate from the labyrinthine London maze for their meeting. She's married. She doesn't particularly love her husband. But her husband is a wonderful man. Cozy and comfortable, he's perfect for a measured family life, not one swirling with strong emotions. And on the other side is a daring pilot. Bold, reckless, and eccentric, risking his life every day and soaring to the stars. A man with whom life can be a whirlwind and an eternal flight of the soul.
