Jean-Marie, a depressed military surgeon in his forties, is grieving the loss of his wife. Leaving his home, beloved sister, and faithful Belgian Shepherd behind, Jean-Marie goes to a mobile military hospital in the woods, where each day he grows increasingly embittered by the sight of broken bodies and human destinies. The unexpected arrival of a young nurse, Harmony (Veronique Jannot), seems to shake him out of his rigid, misanthropic sullenness. His feigned inaccessibility gradually thaws in the face of the pure appearance and simple-minded demeanor of the young woman, who breathes fresh air into the life of the desperate military doctor. A platonic love affair begins between them.
