Can love cure a person's illness? It can, as Sigmund Freud's student Carl Jung proved. Sabina Spielrein (Emilia Fox) was born in Russia in the late 19th century. By the time she came of age, it became clear that she suffered from a rare mental illness that prevented her from living a full life. Sabina came to Germany for treatment by the young Dr. Jung. Carl took on the girl's treatment, but decided to use one of Dr. Freud's unconventional methods. Jung experimented on her to cure her. She had sexual insecurities, she feared her father, yet simultaneously lusted after him. Jung, after consulting with Freud, decided to try his new method of treatment through the patient's sexual liberation. He slept with her. He slept with her to cure her. It wasn't out of love, he wanted to test his theories in practice, and he succeeded.
