A young couple from England, Colin and Mary (Natasha Richardson), are visiting Venice for the second time. They already know the city well, but they too get lost while taking a stroll through the city at night. The streets and alleys lead them further and further from the hotel. They desperately want to find a café, sit down, and rest, but there's not a soul around, nighttime Venice isn't as welcoming as daytime. Then, to their good fortune (or misfortune), they meet an imposing man with a surprisingly clear, deep gaze, who offers to help them and leads the couple straight to the only nightclub in the area. They meet, a conversation begins, and the wine makes their heads spin.
