Unexpectedly for the living, everyone who has died in the past 10 years has risen from the dead on the same day and begun wandering the streets of a provincial French town in a large formation. Dr. Gardet studies the "returned" and tries to understand the reasons for their resurrection and the motives behind their actions. He conducts conversations with these "visitors from the other world," watches over them at night, and discusses their current situation with others. Why were the "returned" resurrected? Why do they want to run away from their loved ones when they themselves have come to them? Why is the religious community silent? Why do they meet each other at night?
