Nicole Calfan "Les chiens" (1979)

A small provincial town near Paris. Deserted streets in the evenings, restaurants closed. Life goes on behind curtained windows. Assaults, robberies, and acts of violence have created an atmosphere of fear. The first patients of young doctor Henri Ferret, who comes to work here, are a worker bitten by a dog set on him and a teacher (Nicole Calfan) raped. Dr. Ferret tries to understand the cause of this cruelty and confront the general psychosis gripping the city. The police are powerless to change anything. The mayor's attempt to restore order ends tragically. He is found dead. For self-defense, the townspeople acquire dogs, and their number grows.
