Bored housewife Pearl (Diane Lane) spends her time with her children and mother-in-law at a dreary summer camp resort, where there's not even a beach, while her husband toils away in hot and stuffy New York, fixing televisions so as many Americans as possible can watch the moon landing live. Her husband, handsome and all-around positive, has long since become more tiresome than boiled carrots. An early marriage due to pregnancy, kids, and all - she's practically never lived... The bored housewife's only solace is a handsome, hippie blouse salesman who travels in his van to these resorts, overflowing with bored housewives, selling them with his cheap wares. Gradually, Pearl's whole life turns into a wait for the blouse seller next visit and a brief encounter behind a screen at a food truck.
