The members of the "The East" gang are pursuing a noble mission, trying to change the world for the better. However, their methods of combating corporations are radical and confuse the common notion of good and evil. The group believes their acts of terrorism are beneficial. In reality, their crimes are little different from those of gangs. Sarah (Brit Marling), an employee of a detective agency, must uncover the group's goals and gather as much information as possible about the instigators of the rebellion. Infiltrating a dysfunctional environment, she becomes attached to new friends and embraces their ideas, skinny-dipping with two boys and a girl, and eating food from the trash. And all this not because it's necessary for cover, but because the group's ideas have touched the heart of even the most responsible and serious girl.
