Maggie (Brit Marling) is the prophet of a sect. Maggie calls herself a messiah, arrived from the future to save a small group of chosen ones. From what, it's not entirely clear. She doesn't even attempt to delve into the details of her future prospects, answering her 'followers' questions evasively. Even here, it's appropriate to question her entire teaching and harshly criticize it. But those who have trusted her are stopped by the simple fear of expulsion. And although Maggie at one point emphasizes that she is not a saint at all, but just a human being (just from the future), this doesn't stop her from firmly and decisively nipping any sedition in the bud. In effect, she plays the role of God. Мarried couple infiltrate the sect and gather all sorts of incriminating evidence from within. Their goal is to expose the false prophet and save her followers from possible disaster.
