Towards the end of the Civil War, the home of Augusta (Brit Marling), her sister, and a slave girl finds themselves in the path of a threatening enemy army. The girls are forced to hide and then fight off two soldiers wandering in search of food and valuables. Three frail women, who would otherwise be discussing outfits and suitors, have mastered firearms and are always on guard for their lives and honor, ready to fight to the last bullet or drop of blood.
Brit Marling tears off her dress and tries to put out the burgeoning fire with it.
