Antoine is a chronically down-on-his-luck man. He shares a room with his mother, who suffers from alcohol addiction, and struggles to generate income by producing his own vermouth, but the drink fails to resonate with the public and is just undrinkable. His heart is set on Cecile (Stephane Audran). Her lover, the hotel director, is notoriously unfaithful, and his actions repeatedly force her to desperate measures. Antoine constantly rushes to her rescue, and these impulses of nobility often land him in the hospital. Meanwhile, the hotel is in disarray, and the director becomes smitten with a stripper (Jane Birkin) and eventually runs away with her. Thus, Antoine briefly finds himself in charge, both in business and in his personal life, while Cecile is now romantically involved with him.
A naked Stephane Audran, lying under a UV light, listens to compliments about her expressive, beautiful, and elegant eyes.
Jane Birkin takes off her dress on stage.
Evelyne Buyle is fired from her job for showing off her breasts and wearing clown makeup.
