In a tiny town somewhere in New Mexico, there lived a young girl, Bobbie Jo (Lynda Carter), who worked her days off behind the bar, dreaming of taking to the stage as a country singer. She longed to escape this tedious, monotonous provincial life, where every day was the same, and give the world her songs. Her everyday life changes dramatically when Lyle, a charismatic drifter who emulates legendary criminals of the past and lives on the edge of the law, arrives in town. Charmed by Lyle's freedom and daring, Bobbie Jo drops everything and hits the road with him. Her best friend, Essie (Belinda Balaski), joins them, and later, her older sister and her troubled boyfriend. The group turns into a gang, at first making money through petty theft, but gradually their crimes become more serious and dangerous. The gang is hunted by the sheriff, a determined and ruthless lawman. Their criminal odyssey quickly spirals toward tragedy.
