Myron Breckinridge travels to Europe to undergo a sex change. After a successful procedure, he transforms into the stunning blonde Myra (Raquel Welch). Upon returning home, she decides to enroll in the acting school run by her uncle, a former Western star. To secure a place at the school, Myra pretends to be Myron's widow. She claims that her husband's will left her half of the school. When uncle doubts her claims, Myra asks for a teaching position so she can earn her own living. Uncle reluctantly agrees but launches a covert investigation to verify the veracity of her claims. Myra clashes with young, lovesick students Mary Ann (Farrah Fawcett) and Rusty, whom she believes embody standard American gender roles. She interferes in their relationship, resorting to extreme methods.
