Former gangster Lou is living out his final years in Atlantic City. Lou's life, cluttered with memories of the past, is adorned only by the nightly ritual of spying on a still young woman, Sally (Susan Sarandon), and the mortifying necessity of playing the gigolo in a relationship with an elderly neighbor. But the retired gangster's ramshackle existence ends when fate brings him together with Dave, Sally's ex-husband, who is hiding in Atlantic City from enraged drug dealers. Drugs hidden in Lou's house by Dave instantly make the struggling old man wealthy. However, the sudden wealth doesn't kill true feelings.
