Three English soldiers, Jack, Willis, and Nicholas, escape from a prisoner of war camp, but only Nicholas manages to slip away to Switzerland. Jack, who has injured his leg, orders Nicholas to tell his lover, Lizzie (Sophia Myles), that he is alive. The Germans send Jack and Willis to Colditz, a camp supposedly impossible to escape. Everyone wants to live, everyone wants to love. But love comes in different forms. Jack's love is creative and beautiful. It helped him survive the camp, not give up, and escape, all the while remaining the kind and good person he always was. But Nicholas's love is selfish, destroying everything in its path. Too many people have died for this love.
