Every day, Rachel commutes by train between the suburbs and New York City. Most of the time, she gets dead drunk and, looking like the local madwoman, wanders the streets or gazes out at them from the train window. Every day, she sees her former home as she passes by, sometimes catching a glimpse of a life that now belongs to someone else, a life she herself gave up two years ago. She also spots a neighboring couple, to her, the relationship between Megan (Haley Bennett) and Scott seems like the embodiment of True Love. Rachel is drunk every single day. But when she shifts from passive observation to action, after suspecting Megan of infidelity and taking the matter deeply to heart, everything spirals out of control. Megan disappears, a search is launched, and the police get involved.
