A family living in a secluded Venetian villa differs from other aristocratic families in that their son is deeply convinced of the existence of an imaginary friend, taking him everywhere, seating him at the table, courting him during meals, playing with him, walking with him, and conversing with him as if he were a real person. Naturally, this situation worries the parents, irritating and frightening them, as it's unclear whether this is just childish fun or a mental disorder. Adding to their worries are occasional accidents and tragic incidents that, from the outside, seem mundane. However, to the inhabitants of the house, everything appears somewhat different, as if an invisible something truly exists. Or is the boy simply acting out of mischief, malice, or madness, hiding behind an imaginary friend?
