Twelve-year-old orphan Samuel is placed with a foster family, and a difficult period begins for the boy as he tries to adjust to his new home, overcome his inner fears, and sort out his feelings. Samuel isn't welcomed as one of his own, his foster parents keep him primarily for the benefits, openly making it clear he's "unwanted," and the atmosphere in the home is tense. Added to this are his difficult relationships with his adoptive uncle and brothers, as well as the feeling that something is being hidden from him. At the same time, Samuel experiences the normal routines of a teenager, he becomes interested in gymnastics, struggles with a lack of money for classes, and experiences his first romantic interest in a neighbor. Growing up becomes especially painful when there's no unconditional support nearby.
