Jude grew up without a father. His mother tells everyone that he died in World War II, but in fact he was an American soldier and did not know that he had a son and just went home after the war. Jude goes to the States to find him, and there he meets Max and his beautiful sister Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), whose fiance recently died in Vietnam. Together with friends, they will have to fully immerse themselves in the life of the hippies of the 1960s: settle in a commune, create their own musical group, participate in the anti-war movement, ride around America on a psychedelically painted bus.
