Malcolm is an experienced doctor, but young Cole's problem seems very complex. The boy is frightened by visitations from ghosts with their unresolved problems, all of whom have been murdered and now descend upon him with fury and rage. Trying to unlock Cole's mind and penetrate the dark world of his fears, Malcolm senses with some sixth sense that something disturbing and tormenting lurks within. While the doctor tries to help his patient, his personal life is tested, his once happy marriage with his wife (Olivia Williams) has deteriorated into an indifferent relationship.
