Glauco wipes down the ficus tree, prepares food, leafs through a book, and watches television. Then, at the bottom of the cupboard, along with a jar of spices, he finds a newspaper containing a dusty, battered revolver, a few bullets, and a cross on a chain, neatly wrapped in it. Wearing a red kitchen apron, Glauco puts the gun aside and roasts a chicken. Then he fetches a screwdriver and pliers, borrows a nail file from a neighbor (Annie Girardot), and, between squeezing lemons and dressing a salad, leisurely disassembles the ancient weapon. Then he uncorks a bottle of red wine and, accompanied by a solemn march on television, sits down to dinner. He eats, ignoring the sexual advances of his neighbor, watches a bullfight with fat bulls, and his own filmed revelries with women crunching apples, splashing in the sea, and engaging in other carnal pleasures.
