Opera diva Caterina (Jill Clayburgh) has dedicated her entire adult life to herself, and as a result, she's completely lost control of her beloved son, Joe. He has spiraled into complete addiction, as his mother spends months on tour, and his father isn't really his father at all, but a mere, spineless stepfather. Caterina is a completely frivolous aristocrat, oblivious to her son's drug addiction even as the injection marks grow into massive bruises. Faced with the problem head-on, she's completely at a loss as to what to do. Compounding the situation is Caterina's profoundly unhealthy attraction to her own child, which, horror of horrors, is mutual.
